Full Circle: My Journey As A MUFON Field Guy
I can't remember a time in my life when I wasn't obsessed by space.
I'm a bit of a Deadhead, and unlike a lot of folks, I always looked forward to that 'free form' part of the show called 'Space'. It was improvisation's little spot, where notes would drift in free fall, and sometimes it would lead into "Dark Star". My favorite. I love space.
When I was 5 years old, I banged a bunch of pieces of scrap wood into what I thought was a really good approximation of what a personal rocket ship might look like. I drew the controls in by crayon.
I might have even used Burnt Sienna.
Anyway, I begged my dad to please haul it up on top of the wooden monkey-bars we had in the backyard. Once secured by my "NASA Specialists" I hoisted myself up the launch platform rigging, and secured my place behind the controls of my first spaceship. I embarked on quite a few adventures in our little square of backyard in Venice CA.
It was my own little quadrant of the universe back then.
Mom shouted out from the window, more than a few times, so I guess I did it a lot...
"Earl! Who are you waving at?"
"The space people mom! I'm waving at the space people!"
And here I am, 53 years later. And I'm still waving at The Space People.
They might've waved back a couple of times too.
I've logged my little handful of Unknowns into The MUFON Files so far.
Full Circle Orbit baby!
